How To Set Up Your AppMakr Developer Account (Step by Step)

Leiser
posted this on May 27, 2010 02:38 pm

Are you a visual learner? Watch the video at the bottom of this post for play-by-play instructions :)

*** please note, you must have your Apple Developer License in order to complete this process.  See Step 1 in screenshot below ***

We strongly suggest using the Safari web browser when interacting with the Apple Developer Portal.

Firefox and Chrome may not work consistently with Apple's website.

a) Sign into AppMakr :: Developer Accounts tab :: Upload Your Apple Developer License Into AppMakr

                            Picture_7.png

b) Generate New Certificate Signing Request

                               Picture_8.png

c) Download the Certificate Signing Request - The CSR file is sent to your downloads folder by default. Once you download the CSR file, clicking the Generate New CSR button will invalidate the previously downloaded CSR, so be careful not to click more than once!

                            Picture_9.png

d) Click here to "Request a Certificate" within the Apple Developer Provisioning Portal.

                             Picture_10.png

e) Browse :: Upload CSR file :: Submit

                    Picture_11.png

f)  After you upload the file and click submit Apple will redirect you to the "Current Distribution Certificate" page and your new certificate will be listed as pending. Refresh the page until you are able to Download your certificate.

        Picture_21.png

g)  Once you have downloaded .cer file, go back and upload it into AppMakr

                         Picture_12.png

h)  Congratulations! You have successfully uploaded your Apple Developer License into AppMakr!!

AppMakr Help

Hi Manny,

The $99 developer account is only for creating iPhone apps, as Apple requires that you have a developer account and the $99 is their fee. You do not need the developer account to build Windows or Android apps. However, you won't be able to use a Windows app on your iPhone, as the native functionality, code, etc., is very different between platforms. iOS apps will only work on Apple products, Windows on Windows, etc.

To use the app on your iPhone, you'll have to create an iPhone app and purchase the developer account to publish it.

Or, you can find a Windows phone and use the Windows app you've created. Here's more information on Windows phones:http://help.appmakr.com/categories/20005868-windows-phone-apps-help-and-discussions.

Hope that clarified things!

Thanks,

Hayley

Hi, I just created a free build and I only want to use this app for myself on my iphone . I now have an XAP file but do not know how to install the XAP or app on my phone. I was told if I do not want to sell this app I would not have to pay 99 for the developer login.

@Tony yes you need to pay $99. Where exactly are you publishing the app? The app store right? So you've to pay them to be part of the eco system.

When we generate a new certificate signing and upload at apple we get an error:

"Invalid Certificate"

Why so?

I'm starting to get pissed. Sign in here, sign up there. I've followed all the directions. Do you have to pay the 99 bucks to get a app? I'm just trying to get it published. Apple can't find me. What's the deal.

@Anas, I'd like to get to the bottom of the issue that you're experiencing but I"m not clear on exactly what's happening.  Can you post screenshots of the trouble area?  It's likely that there is a disconnect between the cert that you created versus what is already in your dev account.  We'll be able to narrow down the issue once we see the screenshot.  Thanks

Hello,

I have an AppMaking class that I teach for an after school program. I have an Apple Developer Account and each of my students has their own Appmakr account. I want to set them up so they can use the wonderful apps they made on their own iPods. I cannot seem to use my developer account in more than one Appmakr account. Is their something I am doing wrong.  Is there anyone who could walk me through the process. I have been through all the forums to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My email is joshua@flexacademies.com. I am willing to pay you for your time. Thank you.

Help! As far as I know, I did it all correctly and it went well until I uploaded my .cer file to AppMkr.  Then I got the following error msg:

The certificate you uploaded does not match the certificate signing request (CSR).

Why? The only thing I can think of is that I registered at AppMkr with a different meail address than my Apple Dev account.  Could that have got some mismatching identifier in the thing I downloaded from AM and subsequently uploaded to Apple?

Do I have to start again?

Help pls!

Thank you

I already have an Apple Developer Account and have had developers submit apps for me to the app store. Their is already a cert in place in my account so what do we do in this case? I don't want to cause any issues with the current apps since the current distribution file was used to upload them.  Also their is one in review at the moment and I don't want to cause any issues with that.

Any suggestions on what steps to take to get my Developer account loaded here in AppMakr?

G'day, I am enrolled in Apple's University Developer program, which doesn't let me create Distribution Certificates, so I can't choose Option 2 (when I click 'Generate New Certificate Signing Request' I get the 'Access is Denied' screen as per the first comment above).  I must choose Option 1 and upload a p12 file (as I can create Developer certificates).

So I go to KeyChain, export my public key as a p12 file.  I go to developer.apple.com --> Provisioning Portal --> Certificates and download a non-expired development certificate (cer file).  I issue the following commands:

openssl x509 -in developer_identity.cer -inform DER -out developer_identity.pem -outform PEM
openssl pkcs12 -nocerts -in keychain_public_key.p12 -out developer_key.key
openssl pkcs12 -export -in developer_identity.pem -inkey developer_key.key -out new_dev_identity.p12

I then try to upload the new_dev_identity.p12 file into AppMakr Option1 and I get the error:

must be X509, not None.

Can you help please?

Hi Anne,

After your add your developer account into Appmakr, it applies for all future apps.  The only thing you need to do is to add new app id's in apple and create the distribution provisionals for each new app.  When you are making changes and republishing, you simply need to make the changes, and republish both a test app and an app store app. Since you are having problems I suggest starting over. This will not effect any apps that are in the store already.  Please see this video for special instructions on how to start over adding your apple developer account into AppMakr.  http://bit.ly/hUeA23

Thanks!

Hello Anthony,

Since I'm not sure of the steps you took to get those errors, it's hard for me to trouble shoot.  But, I can tell you that you don't need to create a development certificate, we only use the distribution certs within AppMakr.  Also, apple's instructions are not going to work for AppMakr, our developers have created a much simpler way for our customers to put their apple developers license into AppMakr.  I would suggest starting from the beginning, deleting your developers license in AppMakr, and revoking your certs in Apple.  If you follow the instructions above using step 2, I think you will find it's much easier.  The p12 is already created for you so you won't have to deal with keychain access either.  Please let me know if you have any further questions along the way.

I am getting an error whenever I attempt to upload my P12 file.  I am using an IMac and registered my certificate with Apple directly - did not use your generate new certificate signing request system - i used Option 1.

I followed Apple's instructions and created both a Developer and Distribution certificate and downloaded it to my IMac Keychain.  The public/private keys I generated were RSA 2048.

I exported my private key to a P12 file and uploaded it to your site using Option1.  I get the following error.

http://www.appmakr.com

dump+certificate() argument 2 must be X509, not None.

What am I doing wrong?

My account is under the email address anthony@grq.net

@ Natalie -- You created a "developer" certificate and not a "distribution" certificate in Apple.  You need to delete your AppMakr cert and Apple cert and start from scratch.  Be sure to read the directions very closely as it is easy to make a simple mistake :)

Can you clarify what it is that you exactly made a mistake on?  Are you referring to your name with registering with Apple?  You would have to contact them, we have no control over that.  You can still create an app with us, there is no tie in with the login credentials with Apple.

@ Newcomb -- I would suggest actually logging out of the Apple Developer Portal.  Then click on the link again and log in with the email address and password that you used to register for the iPhone Developer Program.  Some have found this issue when they log in with the wrong email address (like their iTunes account log in info).

@Leiser - Thanks for your help. I called Apple Developer support and they solved the issue. I had logged in with one email address that was NOT a Developer while clicking on the "register" link from the Apple email in another window. This caused me to have duplicate developer logins with Apple:

1. One had my email address and NO iPhone Developer Account

2. The other had my account name, the Developer Account, but no verification/registration because I clicked on the "register" link to finalize the registration for Account #1.

Anyway, very confusing. Apple fellow was very helpful on the phone. Cleared up my issue of not being able to log in and follow the link (because it turns out I couldn't log in AT ALL!). Thanks again!

It generates a page on developer.apple.com that says "We're sorry. The page you have requested can't be found. And this is with me successfully logged into my developer account on the Apple site. What do you recommend as a fix or alternate steps?
