We would like to have the option to put a link to an external webpage directly from a tab button. Is useful if you have certian services already built in a cellphonefriendly format. So instead of adding a RSS-feed to a tab, we want to be able to ad an url to a tab. When tapped it would open the webpage in the browser,

Scott, the hack is to just use meta-refresh in your index.html file and upload it in the zip like you would any other page in an html/phonegap tab in Appmakr.

I don't know if Apple would approve an app that does this or not. But Appmakr Support hasn't directly addressed this, so I guess we need to test to find out. Although I *have* been able to do this with Mobile Roadie!! Hmmm. I guess that's my answer and I should just move on and recommend the products that do support the features we need. I just hate to see Appmakr keep missing it because they are sooo close to a home run for this niche of the simplest app tool. This *is* their perfect niche! Swing!! Swing!!
can i get that hack while were waiting?

I guess I'm thinking it's a given that nav control should be a part of this feature request.
I can hack around this by uploading an index.html file in the .zip with a meta-refresh tag that redirects to my url. It works perfectly with full nav control. But it's a HACK and I'd rather paste a url into a feature made to support it, than bring duct tape and bailing wire to my project.
I guess more than anything I am baffled that this feature is taken so lightly here in these forums when it's such a red hot topic in other mobile dev circles. This single feature would really launch Appmakr ahead of the crowd for mobile web developers to have the simplest way possible to build out their app. It's exactly the kind of niche that seems perfect for Appmakr to fill.
If Appmakr doesn't bring it, we might as well just use Phonegap. Once comfortable with jQuery mobile and Phonegap, there is no need for Appmakr! THAT's the part I don't get... Why let this go and get left behind when it would be so easy for Appmakr to just bring it??
Challenge your developers to have this feature implemented asap and whoever brings it first wins an iPad2 (or whatever). It would be working by morning.
it can be done - here is the problem - no nav control. no back button, no refresh, you cant really start over fresh unless you actually quit the app.
Jason & Scott, am I missing something? I don't want a link in a feed that goes to a page, I want one of the icons at the bottom of the screen to display a web page. I want it to work exactly like an rss feed does in that respect. Touch the icon at the bottom, see the content on the screen.
Jason, I know you guys are working on "big" things like social and win7. But this request is so simple. It would not take the same level of development as the other features. You already have the mechanisms worked out and your developers could knock this out so quickly!
My guess is Apple won't support this? They won't approve apps that just link out because they have no control over the content? If that's the case, please say so instead of skirting the topic of this thread.
Mobile web pages that emulate apps is so huge right now. If you would let us link to a page it would do 1000% more for us mobile developers than all the other features you are prioritizing ahead of it. We can already build mobile sites that emulate apps using libraries like jQuery mobile. Now if we could just link to them without jumping through .zip hoops it would make things so easy. I don't get why you don't see the potential.
this is already completely possible. just put a <a href="kjkjhkhk" >poop</a> link in a wordpress feed. xml doesnt render well, but wordpress' feeds with atom and xml turned on work perfect. it renders pages exactly how you want them.
Have you guys checked out this topic on "What's the difference between opening a link in the app vs. popping out to Safari when using RSS vs. HTML5"? http://bit.ly/fWPLLS
Let me know if that helps out. These feature requests are looked at, the more users who are asking for something stand a better chance of getting their request implemented. We are getting ready to release Socialize, Android, and Win Phone 7, all of which are huge releases that we've been working on for a long time. Once these go live, hopefully there will be some time for our developers to work on some of these smaller requests. Please know that you guys don't go unheard.
Thanks!
I don't know why the folks at AppMakr ignore these threads. Is Appmakr a dead product? The company doesn't seem to care or be actively developing anything. Sad, because it has a lot of potential. Apparently it isn't profitable or something.
I would like to go directly from a tab to the mobile web version too... I tried the categorical list to no avail... For some reason it doesn't detect the mobile version site... nothing! Please help, this would be a great feature with limitless possibilities... Thanks Tim
Just curious... Is this request being considered? You currently have the ability to make a tab show rss by simply pasting in the url of the feed. It seems like it would be extremely easy for you to add this capability. You allow us to paste the url of an rss feed in, and display the contents. Why not the same for a web page?
I don't see this topic being answered. Is there a reason? I don't understand. It would open up such huge potential for us. And it seems like it would be about the easiest possible upgrade for you to implement. Is that not the case?
Uploading a zip is so much more complex than pasting in a url. Obviously I must be missing something. I'd like to know what it is. :)
Thanks Dan, that's a great article and the categorical lists are great for nested XML. However, when you link to a regular web page from one of those XML files, it will not display the page properly. Not sure if that's because it's thinking it is displaying XML instead of HTML or what. If it would display HTML completely, this would be a great solution.
Still not exactly what we are asking for though.... Which would be the ability to add an HTML tab and just paste in a URL instead of uploading a ZIP.
Have you looked at our Categorical Lists How-to? It's possible to insert a button into an entry which will link the user to a page, this is probably the best way to accomplish what you are trying to do.

Please please please. This would be HUGE and blow things wide open for web developers. I build a lot of data driven apps and need to run them from my server. Being able to link to mobile pages that simulate app behavior would remove all the constraints.
I'm using another app builder platform that supports this (I won't name any names here) but I want to use appmakr because I love the way it handles rss feeds.
I can't think of a feature that would offer so much power as easily as this would.
